Level 1 & 2 Class
The Level 1 & 2 Class is a general level class for people who have completed the beginner courses. Such students may attend this class to maintain their yogic fitness.
Teaching is oriented towards gradual but steady progress. Emphasis is given to different groups of asanasthroughout the month - one week at a time. For example, in week one standing poses are emphasized, in week two forward bends are emphasized, then backbends in week three and in the fourth week the focus is on passive chest openings and restorative poses leading the practitioner, when becoming more experienced, to pranayama (breathing).
- Sitting asanas;
- Twisting asanas;
- Forward bends;
- Back bends;
- Abdominal asanas;
- Inversions; and
- Supine asanas.
This systematic classification is based on the anatomical structure and function of the body and a sequential progression of movement which helps regulate all the systems of the body such as the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, glandular, muscular, skeletal, excretory, reproductive, lymphatic and nervous system.
For good health, all these systems have to function properly with cooperation and coordination. The course has been structured so that there is a harmonious functioning of all these systems.
At the General Level you can expect to hold the duration of each pose, commit to regular classes and start to develop a home practise which serves to maintain your flexibility and strength between classes.
