Simon Maurizio Marrocco is a senior Iyengar Yoga teacher and the director of the St Kilda Iyengar Yoga School, Melbourne. This will be his seventh Italian yoga retreat.
Location
Sperlonga-Fondi, a beautiful sea-resort town between Naples and Rome. The locale has a rich cultural history, ranging from Ulysses to the Emperor Tiberius.
Schedule
Three hour morning classes will be held at the Savitri Iyengar Yoga Centre in the township of Fondi, after which you’ll be free to enjoy the sights of this beautiful region.
After dinner you can enjoy the amazing night passegiata - walking along the beach, or the old upper town of Sperlonga with all its cultural activities.
Arriving at Sperlonga
The splendour and beauty of Sperlonga - a sea resort town between Naples and Rome - are well known throughout Europe. The town has a rich cultural history, ranging from Ulysses to the Emperor Tiberius, whose ‘Villa di Tiberio’ and its museum were rediscovered in 1957. One can swim nearby in the mediterranean sea; with the background of the mountainous region surrounding the medieval Sperlonga township, one has the sense of surreal historical enchantment.
Yoga classes at Fondi
It is situated in the middle of a mild and gentle plain surrounded by the Ausoni Mountains and a strip of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Via Appia runs through its entire territory. There are many historical monuments as well as wonderful beaches and pleasant sceneries.
Its regional cuisine is renowned throughout the world and many summer festivities are held at this time of year, which makes this area a very special place to hold a yoga workshop.
Classes will be held in an Iyengar Yoga school in Fondi, in the morning, leaving afternoons free for relaxation, swimming, or sightseeing. Travel between Sperlonga and Fondi is included in the cost of the workshop.
Fondi is just a simple 1½ hour train journey away from Rome Central station. There is an airport shuttle that runs between Rome airport and Rome Central station every 20 minutes. Pickup arrangements at Fondi will be made with Simon prior to arrival.
